Mission Accomplished!
The team arrived at the South Pole at 12.20am (UK time)
11th December 2012.

“I am just going outside and may be some time.”

These are the famous words of Captain Lawrence Oates as he walked to his death on the ill-fated 1912 South Pole Expedition led by Captain Robert Falcon Scott.

The Iceland Antarctic Expedition is following in the footsteps of Scott and Oates, 100 years on. Oates was slowed down by a wound he had suffered in the Boer War. Our team includes three soldiers, all wounded on active service but now returned to duty with Oates' old regiment. Their aim is to walk to the Geographic South Pole, pulling their own sleds with food and equipment, just as Scott and Oates did in 1912.

The team is being lead by explorers David Hempleman-Adams and Justin Packshaw. The aim is to raise over £1 million for the charities Walking with the Wounded and Alzheimer's Research UK.
